The Russell T Davies of the 80's. What a tool. The ego on that hack! Someone should have told him that being a big deal at the BBC is like being the world's tallest dwarf.
The decline and subsequent shit-canning of classic who can be placed squarely on his sad slumping shoulders.
Even an episode of New Who featuring David Tennant and Matt Smith performing 2 Doctors 1 Cup would still be better than the entire Colon Baker era

Sssh, he's forgotten.

JNT was a good producer, though his stories were only as good as his script editor's. It's difficult to defend some of his decisions, like hiring Bonnie Langford and replacing Romana and K9 with the Three Trees, but he was certainly a more responsible custodian of the series than the sad fanboy hacks we're stuck with seemingly forever now.

I kinda accept Romana, but K9 was Tom's baby; and the whole thing needed a fresh start at that point.

Casting Davison was a totally bonkers idea, that paid off and ensured the show many more years which ever way you look at it.

OK, maybe the direction they pushed Adric's character was a bad move, but he's brill in at least two davison stories.

Nyssa: Another VERY bold concept. This is a character who at the time of introduction has already lost her mother; who is to go on to lose her whole world and father, but also have having to deal with the fact that her father's killer takes on his appearance. That's harsh. It makes perfect sense that she's a little 'cold' but feverishly defensive of both Doctor and Tardis, until she realises her dependency and decides to leave before anything else leaves her, and devotes her life to saving people for the rest of her life.

Now THAT'S a character arc, and Sarah Sutton is obviously brilliant throughout.

Tegan: Yet another risk, but having an unwilling passenger HAD been established in the show's earliest days with Ian and Barbara.
With a (then) modern sensibility, this takes the path of someone who really isn't sure about this Doctor fella, but gradually comes to respect him before it all gets too much. Janet Fielding nails that, IMO. She's also my first crush, so any dissent will be met with Biblical retribution.

Turlough: Even madder! Lets stick a character in the Tardis who's 'hired' to kill the Doctor! There's a lot going on in this era.
Through his journeying with the group, he becomes a better, more moral person and may even reach the point of steadfast ally.

But not as much as Peri will have to prove herself to be in the days ahead...

If NuHive had been archived I could've just copied and pasted it across. Not sure I can be arsed to do it all again. ;)
Maybe I'll wait until the end of my current re-watch. :D
