Greatest Fawlty Towers episode?

Post by Pepsi Maxil »

The Psychiatrist. Basil is convinced a guest has a girl in his room and along with the inept Manuel tries to find out. Definitely the funniest script of the lot and Cleese gives his best performance.

I went with the Bernard Cribbons one as his character was such a plonker. It was brilliant the way that Basil despite being absolutely ghastly, wasn't always the worst person in the room as seen with Mr Hutchinson.

The Builders. ''If the good lord is mentioned one more time, I'll move you closer to him!'' ''You're a naughty boy Fawlty! ''Don't do it again!''

Also, it's generally regarded as most fans least favorite episode but Waldorf Salad is criminally underrated.

It's back on, love. Sorry to get your panties back in a wad. :D

It is, of course, The Germans.

I always thought Waldorf Salad was highly regarded? It's hysterical and contains one of Basil's best outbursts. "THIS IS EXACTLY HOW NAZI GERMANY STARTED!"

It's not exactly regarded as a bad episode, per say, but it's seen as a lot of fans and even Cleese's least favorite mainly down to how obnoxious the American guest is characterized and acted, despite the fact the audience are supposed to sympathize with him. The Anniversary is also not far above it in terms of popularity sadly.

I never thought that the American was meant to be sympathetic. I always thought it was like Mr Hutchinson of both the guest and Basil are awful. To be fair Mr Hutchinson much like the American guest does have genuine reason to be pissed at Basil, who fucks up his order about 5 times, insults him and then assualts him in public LOL. That still doesn't change the fact that Hutchinson is a creep all around. I figured it was just the same with the American guy.

The anniversary episode is great. I love Basil's attempt to force Polly into helping him by feigning a heart attack

The only one I don't like is Gourmet Night. Could never really get into that one although the thrashing scene is pretty funny.
